Thanks for a fantastic year!
Hi everyone!
I decided to write the last blogpost in english just because the english language feels kind of natural now :)
I must unfortunately tell you that this is going to be the last post for this blog. Im right now sitting at London, Heathrow airport while writing this.
I will tell you everything from the beginning.
Since this whole Corona situation started, EF (the organisation) have been sending emails to the US saying that the situation is still under control and you will be able to finish your exchange year. But the past Thursday (19/3) I got an email from EF and they told us that they will start sending all students back home beginning 21:st of March, because of the fast spread of the virus. They basically told us that it feels safer for both them, us and the families to be at home, rather than us being worried that we need to stay longer than expected.
Even though Jasper as a city didn't have any cases when I left, I got another email Thursday night with the flights details for Saturday. This really surprised everyone that the year came to such an abrupt ending.
Everything felt really stressed and we knew we had a hard time in front of us saying goodbye to everyone the next to coming days. I would prefer having at least 1 week of notice, which would make things a lot easier. But this is something that we can't to anything about besides making the best out of the situation and be thankful for what I've had.
Now I will try to sum my thoughts about the experience in just a couple of sentences.
I can start off by saying that this year has been fantastic. Going in to a complete unknown world is not easy but for sure taught me a lesson. Independence is probably what has been tested the most during this time.
I've met so many awesome people, been to beautiful places, had interesting conversations that has influenced me in so many ways.
Then this whole coronavirus thing happened. No one expected this to happen and it was of course a challenge that we had to cope with.
At least we had time to plan a "goodbye" party the last night. Since our house is a bit outside of jasper we had the gathered at a friends house. I had the closest friends over and we had some food and played some games. We had a good time and we said that it wasn't a goodbye but more a "see you again".
Im going to be honest and say that I, now after all of this is over, prefer the fast ending rather than having months in advance. This forced me to take one or two last days to meet everyone one more time and then leave, instead of having to "wait" to go the last time.
Thank you to everyone that has been reading the blog during these 8,5 months. It's been fun to document this journey to share with you and also have as a memory to go back to later in life.
Here are some pictures to sum up this year with, its been a fun ride :)
